  •   A baby alpaca scarf and beanie – a wide, long scarf that is warm without weight

    A very wide, very long scarf with a matching beanie. There is enough of it to wind twice around the neck and still let the ends fall – equally at home over a coat or a jacket.

    Take the whole set, or the scarf or the beanie on its own.

    Baby alpaca is not the fleece of a young animal – it is the finest grade of the clip, taken from the softer upper torso of an adult. The fiber is hollow, so it holds warmth without weight, and it carries virtually no lanolin, which is why it does not itch. Here it is blended with extrafine merino and a little nylon, so the shape stays where you put it.

    It is knitted to shape – fully-fashioned, never cut out of a length of knitted fabric – and wherever the knit is joined it is hand-linked: the open stitches are fed onto the linking machine one loop at a time, so the join stretches with the knit.

    It is hand-finished and hand-steamed, then washed before it leaves the workshop, so it arrives at its true size and stays there. The yarn is spun in Italy.

    I design every piece myself, and it is knitted in a small workshop here in Lithuania – a few at a time, never off a production line.

    Every piece passes through my hands before it is packed – I check each one myself before it goes out.

    It arrives in a plain brown box with the care card inside and nothing else – no filler paper, no leaflets. That is a choice, not a saving – I would rather use less than print something that is made to be thrown away.

    Composition:
    60% baby alpaca, 25% lana extrafine superwash wool, 15% nylon.

    Measurements:
    Scarf – width 90 cm / 35.43", length 252 cm / 99.21".
    Beanie – width 41 cm / 16.14", height 23 cm / 9.06".

    CARE:
    – hand wash;
    – maximum washing temperature 30 °C;
    – gently squeeze the excess water out of the washed garment, do not wring it;
    – do not hang it wet on a hanger, as it will lose its shape;
    – do not tumble dry;
    – iron on the lowest setting with steam, or simply steam it.
